Otintiko is an online boutique based in Costa Rica, specializing in the sale of roasted coffee direct from the brands.
The “Otintiko” brand, which means “authentic”, is a guarantee because consumers can trace the roasted coffee they buy back to its source.
The idea of creating this e-commerce platform was born in 2022, following several observations.

Costa Rica is renowned for producing some of the finest coffee in the world. This is thanks to the considerable and constant efforts made by many players in the sector, to offer us an exceptional cup, combining both quality and sustainability.

And yet, despite a wide range of choices among the country's roasted coffee brands, few of them are accessible for purchase by the vast majority of Costa Ricans. Why is this? Quite simply because they have little or no visibility in traditional distribution channels, particularly in large and medium-sized supermarkets, the preferred places to buy this commodity, where only a few well-known brands are available.

However, although tragic, the health crisis of 2019 has changed consumption patterns in Costa Rica. Online shopping has experienced phenomenal growth, especially in the food sector. This has enabled all companies in this sector to increase their visibility, thanks to this new, fast-growing distribution channel.

What's more, Costa Ricans love coffee and the Internet. The country is the second largest coffee-consuming exporter, after Brazil, and leads Central America in terms of Internet access.

For all these reasons, we've spent two years working to bring you Otintiko. The first marketplace specialized in the sale of roasted coffee, where buyers and sellers exchange their passion, while participating in the development of the national economy.

Otintiko's mission is to increase the visibility of roasted coffee brands, making them accessible to all. To achieve this, we provide these brands with a turnkey solution that is easy to use, inexpensive and adapted to their activity, to present their brand, increase their sales, perpetuate their business and benefit from the added value of their work, by selling their coffee directly to consumers, without any intermediary other than their online store referenced on the Otintiko platform.

In this way, they share with Ticos the diversity of their country's world-renowned coffees, and the pride represented by this bean that has been classified as a national symbol.

Thanks to the exponential growth of e-commerce and the global evolution of coffee consumers towards the third wave, where greater attention is paid to growing, harvesting, processing, sourcing and preparation, our vision for the future is to be the international reference marketplace for buying roasted coffee direct from brands.
This vision is also based on the general trends in consumption patterns of the future. One where product sustainability will undoubtedly be a vital priority. This is due to the fact that humans are becoming increasingly aware of the depletion of our planet's natural resources.
We also believe that the development of transport will bring the consumer closer to the seller. Encouraging the purchase of coffee directly from the brands, in a short circuit.

The watchwords at Otintiko are: transparency, traceability, environment, quality and people.

To achieve this, we are committed to working with passionate partners who place transparency at the heart of their concerns. This ensures optimum traceability for the consumer, thanks to detailed product presentation sheets.

Our vendors also share a common commitment to sustainable environmental development. This involves reducing greenhouse gas emissions to combat climate change, while optimizing the use of water and energy from production to processing. They give priority to the sale of beans from alternative agriculture (sustainable, organic, biodynamic, polyculture, agroforestry), limiting chemical inputs and preserving soil and biodiversity.

The coffees referenced in our catalog also meet quality criteria. Varieties are specially selected according to the recommendations of a qualified agronomist, to suit the soil, altitude and climate of the region. The plants are sown by a farmer familiar with good agricultural practices and using the Cr-Café mobile application to manage the various aspects of his coffee plantations.
The beans are carefully harvested by hand and only those that have reached maturity are picked.
Transformation processes are meticulously studied to guarantee optimal yields, in complete safety.
The artisan roaster masters the art of sublimating golden coffee to perfection, and tastings are carried out to help consumers make their choice according to aroma and taste criteria.
In addition, in order to preserve the organoleptic properties of each package distributed on Otintiko, the harvest date is that of the current year and the roasting date is no more than 6 months.

Of course, improving the quality of life of farmers, permanent and seasonal workers and respect for people in general remain the main priorities for selling on Otintiko.

All these values have been established to enable the Otintiko platform and its vendor-partners to offer every consumer a coffee different from the one they usually find in traditional stores. In return, Otintiko undertakes to provide the brands listed on its e-commerce platform with all its expertise to support and facilitate their digital growth.
